The Second Sunday of Easter: Luke 24:13-35
On this Second Sunday of Easter, we journey on the road to Emmaus. It’s where we discover that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is not an event that stays in the past but a vibrant reality now. The risen Christ is our companion in life, revealing truth in the Scriptures about our identity and purpose. He invites us to his table for a feast and our hearts burn within us when we are in his presence.
Scripture reading: Luke 24:13-35, John 20:19-31 (Children’s)
Respond together
In what seasons have you walked a road of disappointment and dwindling hope like the disciples on the road to Emmaus? How did you experience (even at times ‘hidden’ or unconventional) the presence of Jesus?
The disciples’ eyes were opened and their hearts burned within them when they recognized Jesus. How does this story invite us to be more attuned and aware of God speaking to us in the ordinary and mundane moments of our lives?
In what areas of your current life might the Spirit be inviting you to move from despair and fear to hope?
Cleopas and his friend’s response to the risen Jesus was to rush back and announce the good news to their sphere of influence. In what ways can you share about the way in which God transforms your life with others?
